Public workshops planned next week in Mecca, Mead Valley, Cabazon on county housing element

The Riverside County Planning Department will host three workshops for residents and community organizations next week to learn about the county General Plan housing element and to provide ideas about housing programs, housing types and the potential rezoning of 1,700 parcels identified to meet future needs for higher-density housing.

Volunteers needed to help with backyard composting program

The Riverside County Department of Waste Resources is seeking volunteers to help with the Riverside County backyard composting program.  Volunteer who want to become "master composters" will attend a training course for four Saturdays, and will then donate 40 hours back to the program.  Volunteers are needed to staff Saturday morning workshops, classroom presentations, and community group presentations and outreach events.

A ballot will be mailed Friday (May 22) to property owners in some parts of unincorporated Riverside County about a proposed measure to continue controlling mosquitoes and preventing disease. The County of Riverside Vector Control Program was formed in 1972 to control mosquitoes and other vectors of diseases that could infect the public. A vector is an insect or animal, often mosquitoes and rodents, that can spread infectious diseases to people.
