Public workshops planned next week in Mecca, Mead Valley, Cabazon on county housing element

The Riverside County Planning Department will host three workshops for residents and community organizations next week to learn about the county General Plan housing element and to provide ideas about housing programs, housing types and the potential rezoning of 1,700 parcels identified to meet future needs for higher-density housing.

Want to find a new way to compost your food waste into nutrient rich amendment for your garden?  Learn to put worms to work through a composting method called vermicomposting – the process of using worms and associated organisms to break down organic waste into material containing nutrients for plant growth.  Volunteer master composters will offer a special presentation on vermicomposting to teach county residents how to set up, build, care for, and harvest castings and worms.

County intends to withhold property-tax share as Canyon Lake ignores mounting debt on contract for fire services

With Canyon Lake’s continued refusal to pay almost $2 million owed under a soon-to-expire contract for fire/emergency-medical services, Riverside County notified the city today it intends to withhold a portion of the city’s property-tax share in order to satisfy the city’s mounting debt.
