Tawny Lieu
Deputy County Counsel
Tawny V. Lieu joined the Office of County Counsel in 2005. She specializes in healthcare law and serves as legal advisor to Riverside County Regional Medical Center Medical Bylaws Committee and Bioethics Committee. She provides legal advice to various County departments on HIPAA compliance and to County health plan. Ms. Lieu also counsels the Records Retention Review Committee and Trusted System Committee, reviews and negotiates benefits contracts, and provides advisory services on general tax issues.
Ms. Lieu received her Master of Laws in Tax with High Distinction from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles Tax L.L.M. Program. She also received her Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. Her law school honors include the Dean’s Honor List and the First Honor Award for Secured Transactions in Personal Property. During law school, she served as a judicial extern for the Administrative Judge Martin Burke, with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Hearings Unit. She earned her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Los Angeles with a major in English and minor in Asian American Studies.
Ms. Lieu is a member of the Riverside County Bar Association and California Society for Healthcare Attorneys. She is admitted to practice in all state courts and the United States District Court for the Central District of California and the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
