LA QUINTA – Due to limited parking and seating capacity at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, public parking and a satellite location to view Tuesday’s funeral service for Supervisor John J. Benoit will be set up at Southwest Church in Indian Wells.
A funeral Mass for Supervisor John J. Benoit will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in La Quinta. A reception at St. Francis will immediately follow the funeral.
John J. Benoit, Riverside County Fourth District supervisor, passed away peacefully this evening at his home in Bermuda Dunes. He was 64.
Former Riverside County Supervisor James Venable passed away quietly at his home in San Jacinto at about 4:50 p.m. today (Thursday) after a short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife and children.
Supervisor Chuck Washington has been reviewing additional law enforcement crime data this past week from the sheriff's department and the Murrieta Police Department which have both cited increases in criminal activity, particularly the crimes of robberies and assaults. After further review of this additional crime data, “I have come to the conclusion that there is still a significant impact on the surrounding community around the Southwest Justice Center. I am committed to ensuring the safety of all the residents in the community and keeping public safety the top priority. My intent is to reinstate the Riverside Inmate Destination Endeavor (RIDE) program by requesting the Board of Supervisors to reconsider at the September 1, 2015 board meeting.
About 170 customers remained without power Friday after a fast-moving storm the night before knocked down more than 100 utilities poles and initially cut power to 1,300 or more customers. Crews continue to work to restore the power to the remaining impacted residents, but it may take several days to fully re-establish power because of the damage, county officials said. The downed poles including a number of high-voltage metal poles that were bent over by high winds.
Supervisor Chuck Washington will hold a town hall meeting June 4 to introduce himself and meet with the residents of the Winchester / Homeland area, hear their concerns and share his vision for the Third District’s future.
