Malls, barbershops and hair salons to reopen Monday
A new blueprint for business sector reopening was unveiled by Gov. Newsom today, which
includes a color-coded, tiered system that will use two metrics to measure the coronavirus:
spread rate and test positivity percentage.
More than 1,000 residents have died from coronavirus
Health officials remind residents that while COVID-19 has been slowing in Riverside County, the
virus remains active as more than 1,000 residents have died from it. Taking simple actions like
wearing a face covering, keeping distance from others and washing hands frequently will slow
the spread and provide up to 95 percent protection.
A special team of county and private emergency workers reached a milestone today (Thursday,
Aug. 27). The Skilled Nursing Facilities Outreach Support (or SOS) teams conducted their
1,000th visit at a licensed group living facility, providing educational training, equipment and
behavioral health support.
The County Administrative Center, located at 4080 Lemon St. in Riverside, will again reopen to the public on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Other county facilities will also reopen, although in-person services at all locations will be limited.
A $4 million program to assist unemployed residents get work training and mentoring received unanimous support from the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday. Riverside County’s Pathways to Employment program will provide adult participants paid stipends and other supportive services to ensure success.
Riverside County health officials will give out thousands of free facemasks Wednesday (Aug.
26) at the Menifee Valley campus of Mt. San Jacinto College as the Masks are Medicine
campaign winds down.
Elementary schools in Riverside County seeking to open for in-person teaching can apply for a
waiver starting Monday, county officials have announced. According to state guidelines,
waivers can only be approved for grades ranging from transitional kindergarten through sixth

State health officials issued new guidelines for youth sports that provides for some limited
participation. The state guidelines, released on Aug. 3, are a change from the previous rules
which did not allow for participation in youth sports.
