The number of homeless people living in Riverside County dropped 16 percent compared to two years ago, and the number of chronically homeless fell by 17 percent, according to a countywide survey conducted Jan. 28.
A student at the Cal State San Bernardino Palm Desert Campus has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis and Riverside County health officials are working with university officials to identify students and staff who might have been exposed to the illness.
The California Department of Public Health confirmed that 4 out of 17 mice collected in January by Riverside County Environmental Health officials from San Timoteo Canyon in the Norton Younglove Preserve near Beaumont have tested positive for hantavirus. There have been no documented human cases of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome from Riverside County.
